Pineapple Quick Facts
The following are key consumer facts on pineapples based on the Fresh Trends 2010 (The Packer). These are for the USA consumer market. We will get these turned into a more graphic format soon.
►46% of survey respondents purchased pineapples in the last 12 months ------- pineapples rank 13th. in the top 20 fruits.
►Pineapple purchases climbed seven percentage points from Fresh Trends 2009.
►For the fourth consecutive year, the likelihood of purchase increased according to household income and decreased according to age.
►Families in households with children were more likely to buy the tropical fruit, at 54%, than those without kids at home, at 43%.
►Following a two year trend, consumers in the Northeast were more likely than those in other regions to buy pineapple.
►The likelihood of organic purchase fell nine percentage points this year, with 6% of pineapple shoppers saying they bought organic product at least some of the time.
►This number is down 50% from Fresh Trends 2008.
►Single shoppers were the most likely group to buy organic pineapples exclusively.
►Of those that bought organic pineapple, 39% said they paid the same or less for organic than they would have paid for conventionally grown pineapple --- another 31% said they paid less than 10% more for organic.
